The De Alm Grand Voyager 65 is a remarkable piece of naval engineering, standing as a testament to Dutch craftsmanship. Designed for serious seagoing adventures while maintaining luxurious comfort, this 19.95-metre explorer yacht offers the best of both worlds. First off, the dimensions. At 19.95 metres in length overall (LOA), with a beam of 5.65 metres and a draft of 1.65 metres, it's built to glide through the water with stability and grace. The multi-hard chine steel hull, built from Grade A steel with thicknesses ranging from 5mm to 8mm, combines durability with performance. The beige-coloured hull and teak decking add a sophisticated aesthetic touch.
This yacht complies with the CE-A standard, ensuring it's ocean-ready. The CE Category A classification is the highest standard for recreational vessels, signifying their suitability for extended voyages on open oceans. This means the yacht is designed to handle severe conditions, including sustained winds of up to 40 knots (Beaufort force 8) and waves exceeding 4 metres. Such certification assures owners of the yacht's robust construction and capability to safely tackle challenging offshore environments.
Its displacement of 65 tonnes reflects its rugged construction, while features like double-glazed windows and Awl-Grip paintwork promise long-lasting quality. For added versatility, the air draft can be reduced from 7.75 metres to 5.85 metres using an electric mast-lowering system—perfect for navigating under bridges.
Fuel efficiency is clearly a focus with this boat, with twin steel fuel tanks providing a combined capacity of 7,000 litres (1540 gallons). Stainless steel tanks for 1,200 litres (264 gallons) of freshwater and 1,100 litres (242 gallons) of blackwater ensure ample autonomy for extended voyages.
Accommodation
Step inside, and you'll find an interior that merges modernity with nautical tradition. The three-cabin layout accommodates up to seven guests comfortably. The owner's cabin boasts a double bed, en-suite bathroom, and a thoughtful wardrobe with shelving. Guest Cabin 1 features twin single beds that can convert into a double using a sliding system, while Guest Cabin 2 includes a double bed with a single bunk above—ideal for families.
The saloon's 2.1-metre headroom enhances the spaciousness, and the oak interior with American nut details creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. High-end appliances dominate the galley, including a Miele induction cooker, oven, and dishwasher. A central heating system (Kabola KB 45 combi) with floor heating and single-cycle air conditioning ensures year-round comfort, regardless of weather.
The practical touches continue with a Miele washing machine/dryer and an Elektrends Millennium MI 1511 central vacuum system. The aft deck features an opening door directly from the saloon and a teak-finished cockpit for dining and relaxation.
Machinery
The propulsion system is built around two Volvo Penta D6-300 diesel engines, each producing 300 hp. These engines are paired with hydraulic ZF60A gearboxes and shaft drives, pushing the yacht to a cruising speed of 9 knots and a top speed of 11 knots. Fuel efficiency is impressive, with fuel consumption at just 15 litres per hour at cruising speed.
A hydraulic Side-Power bow thruster and an electric stern thruster with RMC remote controllers provide precise manoeuvrability. The five-blade fixed propellers and water-lubricated stainless-steel shafts contribute to smooth and reliable performance. The engine room is insulated with Merford soundproofing, ensuring a quiet ride.
Supporting systems include a 14.5 kW Whisper generator with wet exhaust and a comprehensive battery bank, including a service array of 12x 2V batteries and dedicated batteries for the stern thruster and generator. A Whisper touchscreen monitor simplifies managing these systems.
Navigation
Regarding navigation, the De Alm Grand Voyager 65 leaves no stone unturned. The helm stations (inside and on the flybridge) have state-of-the-art Raymarine electronics. Three multifunction displays, including two 18.5-inch Axiom screens and a smaller 12-inch unit, offer crisp, intuitive control. A Cyclone 55-watt radar system ensures excellent situational awareness, and the Raymarine autopilot handles long passages effortlessly.
A YachtSense system with a Wi-Fi router and 4G antennas enhances the yacht's connectivity, keeping you online even in remote areas. An AIS Class A transceiver, dual VHF radios, and a Furuno loudhailer add to the comprehensive communication suite. For added safety, a stern camera provides a clear view of the action behind the yacht, and a robust searchlight aids night-time operations.
