RAW by Cantiere Delle Marche: Bold, Rugged, and Technically Superior
A Deep Dive Into RAW: The 30-Metre Explorer Yacht That Pushes Boundaries and Redefines Adventure
Cantiere Delle Marche (CdM) has introduced its latest explorer yacht, the RAW, a groundbreaking design that combines luxury, autonomy, and raw power. This 30-metre yacht is a powerful tool for explorers who demand more from their vessels. It is engineered to handle the toughest environments while maintaining maximum comfort. From long-range capabilities to a design packed with practical, technical features, RAW redefines what it means to embark on an adventure at sea.
A Technical Masterpiece Designed for Exploration
At the heart of RAW is a commitment to performance and reliability. It's not just another pretty yacht—it's a serious machine built for safe, autonomous voyages over vast distances. Equipped with twin Caterpillar C18 ACERT IMO Tier III engines, each delivering 500 kW (at 1,800-2,100 rpm), this yacht has the muscle to push through tough conditions while maintaining fuel efficiency. Its maximum speed of 13 knots and cruising speed of 11 knots make it capable of balancing speed and endurance. With a remarkable range of up to 6,000 nautical miles at 9 knots, RAW can comfortably manage long-range expeditions without the need for frequent refuelling.
Key Technical Specifications:
Engines: 2x Caterpillar C18 ACERT (500kW each)
Generators: 2x Kohler 55 kW units for ample power
Bow thruster: 52 kW for precision manoeuvring
Stabilisers: Electrical, Zero Speed, for stability even at anchor
Fuel capacity: 37,500 litres (9,774 gallons)
Freshwater capacity: 5,300 litres (1,400 gallons)
Displacement: 240 tonnes at full load.
These specs mean RAW is powerful and well-equipped for efficiency, comfort, and autonomy. Its stabiliser fins ensure that comfort is never compromised, even in rough seas or when anchored for extended periods. The yacht also boasts a 52 kW bow thruster, allowing for smooth docking and manoeuvres in tight spaces, essential for when RAW is navigating less-travelled harbours or secluded coves.
Design That Marries Aesthetics with Functionality
RAW's design is as functional as it is striking. Giorgio M. Cassetta, the yacht's renowned designer, focused on creating a geometrical, contemporary profile that doesn't just look good—it works in every possible condition. A high bow conceals up to two 5-metre tenders in the forward area, a mind-blowing feat for a vessel of just 31 metres. This clever use of space leaves the stern area free for guest enjoyment while tenders and watercraft remain hidden from view.
The aft cockpit is designed to be usable in all weather conditions. Thanks to floor-to-ceiling glass doors, it can transform into a veranda-like space, shielding guests from the elements while still allowing for an open, airy environment. Above, the Upper Deck overhang provides natural shading, creating a seamless connection between the salon and a large beach area.
CdM has also cleverly maximised space in RAW's technical and storage areas. From day one of the design process, the technical spaces were incorporated into the yacht's layout. This foresight means RAW is free from the compromises that typically arise from retrofitting storage or engine compartments, leaving more room for guest areas and leisure equipment.
Built for Limitless Exploration
With a draft of 2.2 metres and a beam of 7 metres, RAW strikes an ideal balance between stability and manoeuvrability, making it perfect for accessing remote and rugged coastlines. The robust construction allows it to handle rough conditions while providing a smooth and comfortable ride. The yacht's ability to store enough provisions for extended voyages, combined with a diesel fuel capacity of 37,500 litres, ensures that owners can confidently embark on long, uninterrupted expeditions.
RAW isn't just a vessel for the adventurer; it's an all-weather, all-condition machine. The materials used onboard are as raw and minimal as possible, reinforcing the yacht's commitment to low environmental impact while still delivering a rugged, authentic feel. The intense orange accents on the exterior are both an aesthetic choice and a practical one, inspired by Search and Rescue vessels to increase visibility and enhance safety.
Space, Comfort, and Utility
For a 30-metre yacht, RAW offers impressive accommodation and layout options. It can comfortably house up to 10 guests across five luxurious cabins, with additional space for six crew members. Pullman beds in guest areas are also an option, providing even more flexibility.
Personally (being a massive fan of EVTOL aircraft), I believe one of the most exciting features of RAW is its ability to carry drones and even a small helicopter, offering a level of exploration rarely seen in yachts of this size. This capability, combined with the yacht's range and storage for water toys, ensures that RAW is a true explorer yacht built for those who don't want to be limited by conventional boundaries.
The swim platform deserves special mention. It's been designed as a panoramic balcony with collapsible bulwarks, offering both a functional space for water access and a stunning view of the surrounding seascape. An ample staircase leads down to the platform, which also doubles as a lounging area.
